What the law says<\/h3>\n

Any four-wheeled vehicle driving in France must carry a high-visibility vest and a warning triangle. The vest must be accessible from inside the cabin<\/strong> : in a door pocket or the glove box, not in the trunk \u2014 the idea being to put it on before getting out of the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Why before getting out<\/h3>\n

On an emergency lane, the danger isn’t being stranded: it’s being invisible when you step out. A pedestrian in dark clothing is visible from about thirty meters at night; in a reflective vest, from over a hundred fifty. That’s the whole difference.<\/p>\n

One per person, ideally<\/h3>\n

The law requires one vest, but if you’re traveling with others, only the one wearing it is protected. Many people keep as many as there are seats.<\/p>\n
