A cold engine produces no heat: the heater blows cold air for the first quarter of an hour, and on a modern diesel, longer still. A heated seat does not depend on the engine \u2014 it draws on the battery and warms up straight away. For a twenty-minute journey, it is the only source of heat that arrives in time.<\/p>\n
The heating elements cover the seat base and the backrest. That is what counts for a bad back in cold weather: heat loosens the lower back, exactly where cold stiffens it.<\/p>\n
A two-position switch lets you heat hard at first and then hold. The cigarette lighter plug has a built-in fuse: in a short circuit, that is what blows, not the car's wiring.<\/p>\n
The front covers are sold individually, driver's side or passenger's side. The bench version covers the rear seat. Each has its own cable: if you fit two seats, plan on a cigarette lighter splitter.<\/p>\n
