How to use it safely

  • Position it at eye level without blocking the road.

  • Look at your vents: the mount grips a horizontal slat. Round vents and those with fine vertical slats will not do.
  • Plan on a cigarette lighter charger with enough power: without it, charging will be slow whatever the quality of the mount.

A spring clamp needs two hands: one to open it, one to place the phone. With a magnetic mount, you bring the phone close and it sets itself in place, square. That is one movement instead of three, and it is the only thing that counts when you are setting off.

It charges at the same time

The induction coil delivers up to 15 W depending on the phone. Navigation and a lit screen use more than a slow USB socket gives back: here the battery level climbs during the journey instead of falling.

Magnets or case

On a MagSafe iPhone, it holds directly. On any other phone, you need a compatible case or the metal ring supplied, stuck to the back or slipped inside the case. Careful: a metal ring placed over on the charging area can interfere with induction — position it as shown, in a ring.

On the vent

The mount grips a horizontal slat and locks with a screw. That is steadier than a suction cup on a windscreen, which lets go in strong heat, and the phone stays at eye level without blocking the road.

Does it work without a MagSafe iPhone?

Yes, with a compatible magnetic case, or with the metal ring supplied: you stick it to the back of the phone or slip it inside the case.

Does the charging work through my case?

Induction passes through plastic, silicone and thin leather. It passes through neither a metal plate nor a magnetic card holder. And if you stick on the ring supplied, place it as a ring: laid across the charging area, it interferes with induction.

Do you need a particular charger?

The mount calls for a cigarette lighter charger with enough power to reach 15 W. On a slow USB socket, charging will work but stay slow. The USB-C cable is supplied, the adapter is not.

Does it fit every air vent?

No. It grips a horizontal slat and locks with a screw. Round vents and those with very fine vertical slats will not do.

Does the phone stay put on a rough road?

The magnets hold a phone, case included, in normal use. On a very rough track, as with any magnetic mount, it is better to put it in a cubby.
