When it earns its place

The umbrella left lying around

It usually ends up in the rear footwell, wet, or in the door. Under the seat it lies flat, out of sight, and no longer rolls under the pedals at the first braking.

Bottles and cans

The cup holder is taken, so the bottle travels on the floor. The grooves in the base hold it in place instead of letting it roll from one side of the footwell to the other.

Driving shoes, trainers, beach sandals: they stay on board without taking up the boot or dirtying the seats.

What you would rather not leave on display

Tool kit, cables, documents: once the drawer is pushed in, nothing shows from outside. That does not make it a safe, only a discreet place to keep things.

Will it fit under my seat?

You need about 38 cm of width, 14 cm of depth and 6 cm of clearance under the seat, runners included. On many city cars and saloons the room is there; on cars with a low seat, a battery or electronics under the base, it is not. The safest thing is to measure before ordering, a ruler and thirty seconds will do.

Does it stop the seat from adjusting?

No: it sits in the space between the runners, without attaching to them. After fitting, slide the seat back and forth once to check that nothing rubs, and shift the drawer a few centimetres if it does.

What about the air vents under the front seats?

The drawer is narrow and does not span the full width: on most cars, the airflow to the rear seats passes beside it. If your car blows through a vent placed just behind the runner, move the drawer forward.

Does it stay put while you drive?

It rests on the floor, held by the grooves and by its own weight. Loaded normally, it does not move. That said, it is not a closed compartment: do not put anything fragile in it, nor anything that must stay still under emergency braking.

What material is it made of?
